Week 21 Update

Wahay!!....first payout of the new year after a full on month......not many shocks in last weekends FA Cup matches.....come on, we all knew Man City and Stoke were there for the taking!! :-)

Apologies for the lack of update last week....it's been a bit of a traumatic week in Chez Stansbie.

Anyway, down to business, and it's been a very good month for our December winner....step forward Kenny Roberts who stormed off with the top prize!

JonB from Bolton continues his good form by taking 2nd place this month.....maybe that will ease the pain of seeing his beloved Man U slump to a loss against the mighty Rams tonight. :-)

Rob manages to hold on to 3rd spot quite comfortably, whilst Charlie leaves it late to take 4th place.

Dom and Wayne also take it to the wire before claiming the last two money slots in 5th and 6th respectively!

Plenty of change in the ranks this week!

The chasing pack is still failing to make any inroads into JonB from Boltons mammoth lead at the top of the tree, but we do have a change in 2nd place, with Dom taking over from Bowyer, who drops to 3rd.

More good news for IP Zen Master, Kenny, who storms into joint 4th place from nowhere, with Charlie keeping him company!

Jeff climbs to 6th, with Rob moving into the last money spot in 7th.

Transfers
The 2nd transfer window will open at the end of the month. Same drill as before...you can make up to 3 changes to your team as long as you stay within budget, and retain either a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 formation. All transfers must be emailed to me by 17:30 on Friday 6th February 2009, and any new players you draft in will start scoring points for your team from Saturday 7th February 2009.

We have a new leader this week.....fresh from a week on the ski-slopes, Kenny scales the summit of the GFFL, with a slim lead over JonB from Bolton who drops to 2nd!

Rob's slide continues as he drops to 3rd this week, but it's a good week for Bowyer who climbs back up to 4th place!

Ed hangs on to 5th place, but it's looking grim for yours truly as I drop to 6th place! :-(

Juggernaut JonB from Bolton continues to plough on in top spot, although his lead has been cut slightly, with Bowyer climbing into 2nd spot, at the expense of Gary who drops to 3rd!

Dom still holds on to 4th place, but Jason has a good week, climbing to 5th.

Also a good week for Charlie who moves up a spot to 6th place, with Jonny also a happy man as he takes the last money spot in 7th!

Quite a few people within striking range of the money slots though, so expect plenty of change over the coming weeks with a load of matches being played!!

Paul is still bottom, but edging ever closer to Stuart, who must be sweating a bit!!

Another delayed weekly update folks....many apologies! There's been a lot going on....obligatory illness, office party, panic as the last Xmas post deadline approached, etc. etc......anyway, here we are on the verge of another Xmas, and another week gone in the GFFL, so onwards to the details!!

Oh yes....and here's a little teaser of a nice surprise to be unveiled in the New Year!!

There's just no stopping that man, JonB from Bolton as he roars into top this week, with a whopping 15 point lead.....normally i'd say game over, but December is long month, so still a shedload of points to be scrapped over.....so some hope still for Rob who drops to 2nd, and Kenny who climbs to 3rd this week....and the lucky sod's been off gallivanting around the ski-slopes in France this week!!

Slightly less hope for the trailing pack with yours truly dropping to 4th place. Ed climbs to 5th, and Bowyer who drops to 6th!

Stuart slumps to the bottom of the pile this week!

JonB from Bolton just continues to steam away from the pack, and his lead at the top has grown to a massive 88 points....abandon hope all ye merer mortals!! :-)

Things are a lot tighter amongst the forlornly chasing pack, Gary is still 2nd, but his grip on that position is becoming a little loose, as Bowyer is now just one point back in 3rd place.

Dom holds on to 4th place just ahead of Jeff who rermains 5th.

Sonal climbs back to 6th place this week, and Charlie takes 7th!

Paul is still bottom.....but is edging closer to respectability every week!!

The start of another new month in the GFFL....man this season is flying by! December is an exciting month as there are plenty of matches over the holiday period, and we also include the first of the FA Cup matches, so plenty of action and loads of points to play for!!

The Stansbie boys are off to a flyer this month!! Yay-hay!! Rob leads the way in top spot, with yours truly lying 4 points back in 2nd!

JonB from Boulton lurks ominously in joint 3rd place with MBT wearing, comms/network guru, Kenny keeping him company!!

Bowyer is in the mix again this month in 5th, with Jeff also going well in 6th place.

A long way to go though, so there's bound to be plenty of movement over the coming weeks!

Well, for the second month running, we have joint winners...just goes to show that this years competition is one of the closest ever...so far!!

Not many goals amongst the big guns this week, so it's all about defences and clean sheets!!

Dom continues to lead the way this month, but Jeff is pushing him hard as he climbs to 2nd. JonB from Bolton jumps into 3rd place, and Mellie-Mel is also on the up in 4th.

Ash drops to 5th, with Tina taking the last money slot in 6th.

Still no respite for Paul who's still bottom!

A big shakeup this week, with plenty of goals, and some shock results...Newcastle-Wigan...2-2...who'd have predicted it eh!?!?

All change this week, as Dom surges to the top, ahead of Sonal who climbs to 2nd, pushing Ash down to 3rd.

Jeff jumps into 4th place, Mel is 5th, and JonB from Bolton and Archie share 6th place!

No better news for Paul this week as he's still bottom!

A good week for JonB from Bolton as he increases his lead at the top and the field spreads out a bit below him. Gary remains 2nd, but Sonals week gets better as she moves up to 3rd!

Bit of a gap back to Jason who drops to 4th. Bowyer climbs to 5th, Dom enters the money zone in 6th and Jeff and Jonny are inseperable in 7th!!

Well everyone has had the opportunity to refresh their teams, the first transfer window is closed, new players score their first points, and hopes are rekindled!!

Week 13...unlucky for some, but not for Jonny, who continues where he left off last month, and leads the way this week!! Ash also has a good week on the back of a comprehensive Liverpool win, in 2nd.
Charlie and yours truly are joint 3rd, and the remaining money slots are taken by Jason and Sonal who share 5th!!

What a momentous day!!! No...not Obama becoming El Pres.....it's another GFFL payout!! Yee-haa!!

With 2 rounds of games counting this week, it was inevitable that things would change, and change they did!!
Charlie managed to hang on to top spot...however...he has to share the honour with margin-meister and QPR fan...Jonny, who had a storming week!
Sonal falls to 3rd place, dropping agonisingly short of sharing top spot!
Gary is 4th, just ahead of JonB from Bolton in 5th, with Jeff taking the final money slot in 6th!

Stuart finishes a distant last this month!!

Very little change from last week, with the top 5 unchanged, so JonB from Bolton still leads the way from Gary in 2nd, Bowyer is still 3rd, ahead of Jason in 4th, and Sonal in 5th.

Jonny caps a great week, by climbing to 6th place, with Rob grimly hanging on in 7th after a disastrous month!

With just a week to go until the next payout, we have a new leader as Jeff hits the front! Top cricketing-student-teadrinker, Vish stuns everyone by climbing into 2nd place, with Kenny dropping to 3rd!

(EDIT 23/10 - Next payout date is in fact 2 weeks away, NOT next week....thanks to Bowyer for flagging that!)

We then have a 3 way tie for 4th with Bowyer locked together with two ladies, Sonal and Tina!!

A bad week for my little bruvver as Rob hits rock bottom.....and it's his birthday today!!

Anyway, the show goes on, and this months champion manager is.....David Bowyer, who storms to the top, taking it by 8 points from 2nd placed Margins-maestro Jonny, and Chav-bling Burberry Merchant, Lucy in 3rd.
Sharing 4th place are Rob and Jason.
There's a 3-way tie with Gary, Hairy-Gav and yours truly each taking a slice of £5....whoopy-doo!! :-)

First update of the new month, due to those pesky international matches!! That England result in Zagreb was a turn up for the books eh!? :-)

This months early leader is....wait for it!!.....ME! Amazing stuff..I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming!! This is nosebleed territory for me!!

In 2nd place we have Archie, with Bowyer and Jonny locked together in 3rd. A point further back is Hairy-Gav in 5th, and we have a threesome sharing 6th...Jason, Sonal and Charlie!!

Where did August go!! That's the end of our first month of the new GFFL season, and we have our first batch of winners!!

No surprise that seasoned, grizzled, campaigner, JonB from Bolton, easily held off any challengers, and storms to the first win of the season!

Rob hangs on to 2nd place, ahead of the inseparable Jason and Gary who share 3rd, with new boys Phil Crouch and Mark Lomas in 5th & 6th respectively.

Jonny claws his way off the bottom leaving Hairy-Gav with the honour of being our first wooden-spooner this season!! :-)

Well, the Olympics are over, so it's full attention on the footie for now!! All change this week.....

Monthly
They say that the cream always rises to the top, and it looks that way this week, with last years GFFL Champion, JonB from Bolton, moving ominously into top spot!!

He's got a big lead over last years 3rd placer, Rob who climbs to 2nd.

Bowyer climbs to 3rd just ahead of Mellie-Mel in 4th and Elliott in 5th place.

Dave Brennan and Jeff Cook share the last money slot in 6th!

Jonny remains in last place, but spookily he improves his score of 13 last week into 31 this week!! There are dark forces at work!! :-)

Week 1 Update

Ladies and Gents...We are underway!! OK, we are slightly down on numbers from last season, with a total of 33 managers this year...the credit crunch has taken its toll on the GFFL with a number of people citing financial reasons for dropping out...but we've gained a few newbies (welcome to you lot...you know who you are!), so we're still looking healthy.

Due to reduced numbers, the prize fund is slightly down this year, so i've had to tweak the prizes...details below in the money section.

Anyway, down to business.....

Monthly
This being a short month, it's important to make a good start, and Mellie-Mel gets off to a flyer..helped by having Agbonlahor and Deco in her team! Her good friend and Borough Market Cheese Mogul, Elliott J, is close behind in 2nd.

In the battle of the Parry brothers, it's Roland who takes the honours this week, in 3rd. Bowyer and defending champion, JonB from Bolton, are tied for 4th, and the other Parry brother, Ed, is 6th.

The signs are ominous for Minute-meister, Jonny, as he is last on an unlucky 13 points....be afraid Mr S!

Last seasons Credit Crunch Trophy contenders, Darren and Blissy, have both dropped out this season, so we are gauranteed a new winner this season! For the newbies info, this is the section where we name and shame the slow payers. It's early doors, but we already have a number of people who have yet to make their initial £25 payment, so please check the Money section on the downloadable spreadsheet (link is near top right of this page!) to see if you need to make a payment. As a reminder to all who have yet to pay, it's an initial £25 payment due now, followed by £5 per month starting in September, through to January inclusive. Alternatively, feel free to pay the whole £50 in one hit if you'd prefer!

The dust has barely settled on the 2007-08 season, and already we’re beginning to think about the new GFFL season!! So it's time to decide whether you are in or out for the coming season.

Full details of players etc. will be available in the next week or so, but I’d like to try and get an idea of numbers, so please let me know if you are interested in taking part again this year, and as usual, please pass this on to any friends, family or work colleagues who might like to join in the fun. We’ll again be using the Daily Telegraph Fantasy Football League as the basis for the GFFL. Rules and regulations are detailed below.

As usual, the emphasis is on keeping it simple and low-maintenance. You pick your team, make up to 3 transfers (if you want to!) at the 3 designated transfer windows during the season, and with a bit of skill and lot of luck, you sit back and rake in the money!!

Team Selection
The format is pretty much the same as most years, you can pick either a 1-4-4-2 or 1-4-3-3 formation. Once the full player list is out in the next few weeks, I’ll put together a spreadsheet with a team form for you to fill in.

Team value must not exceed £50m.

Transfer Windows
There will be 3 transfer windows, with up to 3 transfers allowed per window, at the end of October, January and March respectively. Actual transfer window deadline dates will be notified as they approach.

Deadline
The new season kicks off on 16th August, therefore the deadline for getting your team in to me is 17:30 on Friday 15th August.

Prize Fund
Entry fee will again be £50 (a bargain at the equivalent of £5 a month over 10 months!), payable as a £25 initial instalment prior to the season start, followed by 5 x £5 monthly instalments (Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec & Jan) thereafter, preferably by bank standing order. Of course anyone wanting to pay the full amount from the start is welcome to do so....it’ll save you having to set up those fiddly standing orders!

Account details and prize fund will be finalised once we have any idea of the number of people taking part. There will be monthly and season prizes as in previous seasons. It is likely that if numbers are similar to last season (37 people took part last season), then prizes will be awarded as follows:

+1 pt for appearing as a substitute

+3 pts for an assist
+5 pts for scoring a goal
+3 pts for being named as the Man-of-the-Match by Opta

-5 pts for missing a penalty
-3 pts for an own goal

-5 pts for being sent off
-2 pts for a booking

Goalkeepers and defenders only
+4 pts for a full match clean sheet
+2 pts for not conceding a goal during a part-appearance
+5 pts for a penalty save
-1 pt for each goal conceded
